I found a use for a mathematical formula! This platter had to have a precise circumference to allow me to fit a bead ribbon with a 4 line poem onto the edge.

The poem was a favourite of my grandmother. She had embroidered a sampler with it on when she was a child and I remembered it from my childhood.
